Willpower as a Last Resort

What causes a former smoker to still experience an occasional urge to smoke or vape after ten years of abstinence? What causes someone on a weight loss journey to deeply struggle with cravings for processed snacks and sugary drinks? Why would you continuously choose to struggle with a bad habit?
While your focus may often fall on how you physically act, addictions and other bad habits are actually only 1% of the problem—the other 99% is purely psychological. This means that something is blocking you. You may still believe in some hidden benefit of the habit, or perhaps you've convinced yourself it’s hereditary, or are misattributing a simple physical sensation to a lie you unconsciously learned from friends, family members, or the media years ago. If you can't convince me that something is true, then I may need to convince you that you're wrong.
Willpower is only used when necessary, like for managing cravings that occur because you can't consume the nutrients your body needs. It may be used for other health concerns that cannot be completely eradicated through hypnotherapy, including issues relevant to your thyroid or pancreas rather than your mindset.
At Life Hypnotherapy, willpower is treated as a last resort and not a first step towards progress. People often quit smoking on the first day. Some people don't want to quit entirely. They may simply want to reduce the amount that they smoke. I use not only willpower but hypnosis to help me manage problems with pica that I attribute to my nickel allergy.
Willpower is a part of the care plan process, which doesn't exclude you from making decisions moving forwards but makes you a part of the decision for how you choose your next move with feedback and advice.
Now know this, hypnosis is meant to make difficult tasks much easier to complete. You're not meant to feel deprived of your cigarettes or cupcakes because when you resort to using willpower to reach your goals, you're in a state of resistance and resistance is simply not always the most ideal situation to constantly experience. My approach for ending bad habits is not to eat, drink, and be merry. It's a I-know-I'm-going-to-move-forwards-and-not-turn-back approach.
By quieting the internal resistance you've been suffering from, you can:
Reduce Friction: Tasks that feel like uphill battles (like resisting cravings or managing anxiety) start to feel more like natural choices.
Reframe Effort: Hypnosis changes your "inner script" from “I have to do this” to “I am the kind of person who does this,” making the process feel less like work.
Heighten Focus: It creates a state of "flow" where you’re less distracted by the difficulty of the task and more engaged in the execution.
Hypnotherapy doesn't necessarily make the task itself disappear, but it lowers the emotional and mental cost of doing it. You're not meant to struggle. You're meant to fly free. Book a free consultation with Life Hypnotherapy and choose to Live. Life. Better. your way, which is the best way.
